So for the last year or so, I have been kicking around the idea, of having my own baking side business. Well today, I officially headed in that direction. With being laid off, I decided to do what I love, and that's baking.

So here is the link to my new blog:

When the unexpected comes...

So today I was let go from my job. I was laid off due to the economy. It saddens and yet angers me. Mostly, I wonder why? When is it going to be my turn? I think about how life isn't fair, but I have a God who has never let me down.

...and so for inspiration and encouragement I turn to the Word of God.

Job 13:15
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him

If you don't already know, my husband works for them too. He is a General Manager for the Berkeley store (on Telegraph).

My official title is: (drum roll please) Catering Coordinator

Fall is here...

Where has the year gone? It's already fall...not that I am complaining.

Fall is one of my favorite times of year. I just love the rain, scarves, hats, and coats...not to mention the colors.

I find it amazing the color scheme that God chose for Fall. They are warm and inviting colors, that remind you of home and the holidays.

So if you haven't already gotten the box of Fall clothes down from the attic, you might want to do so now. Don't forget to dust them off, wash them, or air them out, as you will be needing them in the next few weeks as the weather starts to cool off.

A Testimony of God's hand...

I never did mention this. A couple of months back, I quit my job. Long story short, it was for the best. However, our financial situation has suffered since. In April, we were short our rent and a couple of bills worth of money. I trusted that God would provide.

Joel's work was going through a Class Action Law suit that would benefit us when they came upon a settlement. However, we did not know when we would be receiving that money or how much it might be.

God is always on time.

We received it one day before our bills were due and the rent cleared the next day!

God not only provided for our current needs, but gave us an extra amount to help sustain us for the next month.

It never fails to amaze me how God works things through. How we are making less money, yet we have food on our table, and our bills are paid.

It's such a privilege to serve Him! Jesus is my "Jehovah Jireh", my provider.

Tamales, Tamales!

Okay so here they are. They turned out a little too soft, and so I have to now warm them in the oven, so that way they can dry out a bit. Overall, though the taste was good.

My New (Old) Sewing Machine

Okay so I have been wanting to get a new sewing machine for a long time. Well now that I have time to sew, I really need it.

So I put up a WTB on Craigslist, and would you know, someone wanted to trade. This thing is heavy, metal and I can already tell, a work horse. She was made in the 1980's, and sews beautifully. She does have a lot of parts, so wish me luck as I figure out what I am doing. I know her and I will be the best of buddies.

So here she is in all of her glory. I'm going to name her, but am unsure of what to name her, so I'll put a poll up and hopefully you can help me name her.

Meeting of the long lost brother.

So when I was 6 years old my Mom and Dad put a child up for adoption. I never got to meet him, because this was a closed adoption, and the child was taken as soon as he was born.

About three years ago, my mom found him on MySpace. She sent him an email, and he didn't respond right away. Apparently he was in bootcamp, (Oohrah! He's a Marine.) and explained it all to her in the email.

Don't we look alike? My Dad must have strong genes. I think he really looks like my other brother Ayrton, and Alex.

The first picture is of Matt with his Mom an Dad.

Second, Matt and Alex.

Third, Matt and my Mom.

Fourth, all of us kids.

I didn't get a good picture of Matt and myself, I'll see if my mom has one.

His name is Matt and he is 22. If you want to see more about him, here is his myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/nsxguy

Needless to say, he wanted to meet us before he was deployed to Afghanistan (next month). So here we are three years later. We finally got to meet him. He is a great person and very easy to get along with. I hope to send care packages to him. Let me know if you are interested in sending care packages as well to other deployed soldiers.

We had a wonderful visit. We left Friday afternoon, got to Simi Valley (So. Cal) later in the evening, and found a hotel.

Saturday we met for lunch at the Elephant Bar, went back to his house for a visit, and later in the evening, we went to dinner. The amazing thing was that there was no "Awkwardness" at all. I mean it seemed smooth and as if we were meeting up with family. His parents are super nice, and very hospitable. We even got to me his other (adopted) brother.

I am praying for a safe tour (as he will only be there for 7 months). Oh and one more cool fact about him. He is the one to call in the artillery strikes! Way cool!

...and so the hunt for a new job begins.

Keep me in your prayers as I search for yet another job. I terminated my contract today as the work environment just did not help my sanity. I'll spare you the details of all the tears and bad days I had. Just know that I am happier being jobless, but yet trusting in God to provide our needs.

My very first Wedding Cake!

So about a year ago, I took a cake decorating class, and ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I figured hey, this could be a way to make some money if I decided to stay home and raise a family, but OH the work that goes into making a cake.

Never-the-less I have endeavored to make beautiful cakes whenever I can. And because of that, I had a really good friend ask me to make her wedding cake.

At first I was nervous and scared, and then I became excited thinking of the new challenge. She wanted a 3 tiered chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting in a messy, but swirled design.

To be honest, I never knew how much pressure one goes through when making this lifetime event cake. I mean, what if it looked terrible, or I burnt it! How awful I would feel. I know the disappointment in not having my dream wedding cake. I asked for dots as my boarder, and I got shells (but at least the cake tasted good). :(

Overall, I really enjoyed making it, and I got several compliments on how moist it was, and how the buttercream was not that sweet.

Hope you enjoy the picture!

Note: This picture was taken as I was decorating it, and I was not finished yet, so there are still some bald spots where I added petals later.

Vacationing in Colorado

So today Joel and I leave for Colorado. Once we come back, I'll hopefully have some pictures to post. We are going for a wedding. Naomi Miranda as a matter of fact. But I'll talk more later about it.

Suffering in silence? Let me introduce you to a man I know that can heal your broken heart.

Have you ever anticipated something, only to be disappointed? I mean, like you were looking forward to something, but it never came to pass? That's me!

Somewhere when I was a child, I determined in my mind that crying was associated with weakness. I HATED when I would get spankings and I would have that uncontrolled twitching neck (you know the one that made your head turn to the side). I just hated that!!!

As an adult, I still find it hard to just let things go. I mean it's just tears right? Just an outlet for pain (or joy). But to actually let it go (especially in front of people) is soooo hard for me.

Let me just say, the one exception to this "motto" in life I have, is that I am the biggest baby there is when it comes to God. I am a weeper, and maybe He intended for it to be that way.

The one thing I am most grateful for is God! He can take all my pain, heartache and the grief I feel, away, and leave me feeling renewed. I'm so grateful that I can find peace in an altar by giving my hurts to Jesus, and walking away knowing God will take care of me.

Of course grief always has it's way of affecting you, but it is such a comfort knowing I have God Almighty to lean on in my times of weakness.

He is my strength! (2 Corinthians 12:9, "And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

I testified a couple of weeks ago. LOL, and of course I cried (I'm such a baby), about how in the middle of our circumstances we don't always see how God is working for our benefit, and how we may not understand what is going on, but that no matter the outcome God knows best!

He knows:

...what's best for us.
...our future.
...that He will never give us more than we can bear.

So if you are suffering in silence, and you do not know My God, let me introduce you to Him. Even if you know Him, and need a few words of encouragement read on.

Jesus:

...is a beacon of light when you are lost!

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path" Psalm 119:105

...is peace you never knew!
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27

...is the lifter of your head.
But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. Psalm 3:3

...is the healer of your body.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. Mark 5:34

Matthew 5

1And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
13Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

To sum it all up, I know that God's hand is on my life, and He has ordered my steps according to His purpose. He chose me to serve Him, and what a privilege that is!
